Skills for Life at the Survival Weekend

Ever wanted to experience a survival camp in an outstanding woodland setting? Nearly one hundred young people are about to do just that in a few weeks’ time.

Scouts from across the county are coming together to take part in the first dedicated Survival Weekend for young members that the site has hosted in recent years. Survival weekends are nothing new at Danemead, with over thirty-five acres of un-spoilt woodland groups have been coming to the site with survival skills at the heart of their programme.

This is however the first weekend, for young people, run in partnership with Danemead and Bushscout UK, the national Scout Active Support Unit and follows on from the highly successful adult survival weekend held in May this year.

Bushscout UK provides support to Counties and Leaders countrywide to deliver structured and safe practical skills which includes Countryside awareness, Woodcraft, Bushcraft, Crafts, Bladed tool use, Campfire Cooking, Game Prep, Campcraft and Tomahawk Throwing Training.

During the weekend the Scouts will have the opportunity to learn a whole host of new skills, make new friends and complete most of the Scout Survival Skills Activity badge.

Matt, the site manager is looking forward to the weekend,

“Survival Camp really is the cherry on the cake for what has been a trans-formative year for Danemead. This is our second annual event and shows off what both Danemead and Bushscout.UK passiantley believe in. Teaching young people skills they will be able to keep for life!

I can’t wait for what is going to be an amazing weekend and take a different spin on the usual survival camp. I can’t wait to meet all our participants and leaders."

There are still four places left on this course, you can book onto the weekend using our automated booking system.
