Another successful year for the Site

As another financial year draws to a close our Chairman reflects on another successful year.

Last week I attended the campsite’s quarterly finance meeting to review the end of year accounts. How things have moved on from three years ago. The fact that we could actually hold a meeting with the final accounts in front of us on the second day in April is true testimony to the hard work of Ann and Monica, our Treasurer and booking secretaries.

The fact that total income for the year (£33,202) is almost double that of the previous year (£17,921) is testimony to Matt, the Campsite Manager, his team of wardens and crew and the Management Committee, who have fully supported Matt with his ambitious plans for the future of Danemead.

Investments include new entrance signs and £600 spent on new hot water drinks boilers for UTC and the Tuck Shop and over £3000 on a new boiler system in UTC for hot water and central heating.

Once again the Tuck Shop takings have beaten all records with an income over the twelve months of £4,057.95 beating last years all time record of £2,856.01 by over £1200. With some new lines for 2019 and the ability to sell tea, coffee and hot chocolate next year’s income should be even higher again.

However, the main highlight of the accounts for me is that camping and UTC fees have increased by an amazing £7,139.01 on last year. This is indicative that Danemead Scout Campsite is really starting to be the first choice to take young people for outdoor adventures and overnight experiences.

  • Scout Camping fees increased by an amazing 63%
  • Non Scout Camping Fees increased by 15%
  • UTC letting fees increased by 17%
  • Day visit fees increased tenfold

The word is out there, certainly within the Scouting community but our focus now needs to be in promoting more use by schools and other youth organisations, in particular as a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award venue.
