Fun Camp 2016 Fast Approaching!

No doubt lots of you are preparing for, or acually on, your annual camps (or maybe on your own family holidays!).

However, please don’t forget that the Danemead Fun Camp will soon be here over the weekend of Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2016.

View our flyer for full details. Lots of fun activities are being planned and it should be an exciting addition to this year. The event is open to all Youth Groups and not just members of the Scouting Association.

Bookings can be made using the booking form. Please note that this is a new version and different from the one previously posted. It has a revised date for deposits and a revised contact name if you want further details.

Also, as we don’t want anyone to miss out on the fun, if you think you’ll have problems getting a deposit cheque to me by the 31st July (perhaps your second signature person is away!), just let me know and I’m sure we can work something out :)

Apologies from Booking Secretary

Hi….. just a little post from Danemead’s booking secretary, Elaine Maul, to apologise for the lack of response to enquiries and bookings sent through during the latter part of November and December.
I’m afraid my Mum was very ill in hospital and I was pretty much spending all my time there. Unfortunately, she passed away on 21st December.

However, I am this afternoon going to start ploughing through the various messages that have come through, so thank you for your understanding at a difficult time for me and my family.

Paths in the Woods North of Danemead

At Danemead, we pride ourselves on being a perhaps old fashioned, backwoods site where young people from the Scouting Organisation and other youth groups can enjoy outside activities.

At Danemead, not only can you enjoy backwoods camping but there is access to a fantastic woodland area surrounding our site where young people can learn traditional map reading skills as they hike in the area.

However, if you carefully examine the 1:25000 scale map of the area, a number of the tracks are not marked as rights of way but just as tracks. For many years, to my knowledge, people have stayed at Danemead and used the surrounding tracks and paths without any problems. However, in the last two weeks, this has changed! In actual fact, some of the woodlands are privately owned and the owners have started being very heavy handed in warning people off from using the tracks …… tracks that have been used by people for a very long time.

The local British Horse Society is trying to do something about this! They are organising a meeting on Friday 12th June 2015 at 7.30pm at Brickendon Parish Hall to discuss the issue and get evidence of how people have been using the tracks. The flyer giving full details is here.

What they want to do is to get evidence of when people have used these tracks so they can make a case to have the tracks designated as rights of way.

The tracks have been split into four different sections, so if you have walked any of them, please fill them in and send them to Alison at the British Horse Society (her email is on the flyer).

The four sections are:

  1. Through Broxbourne Woods.
  2. Through Highfield Woods.
  3. Through Bramble’s Woods and Cowheath Woods.
  4. Through Cowheath Woods and Broxbourne Woods to Pembridge Lane.

If you love walking and feel it is important that our young people can access the outside to learn traditional Scouting skills, please fill in these forms if you have used any of them at any time. Thank you.

The completed froms should be sent to the following address:

2015 Rates Now Live

At Danemead, we always close for the winter due to the problems caused by frost. However, those warm days will be here before you know it and now is the time to plan your summer camping.

Here at Danemead, although we have slightly increased the cost of hiring our indoor accommodation, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, after chatting with a number of Scout leaders, we feel it’s very important to encourage as many Scout groups as possible to get out camping and not worry too much about the cost.

So ……. we have reduced our camping rates for 2015. If your group belongs to one of our four owning DIstricts (ie Barnet, Chingford, Enfield, North London) our camping rate has reduced by 50p to £3.00 per person per night. If your group is from any other District, our camping rate has reduced by 50p to £4.00 per person per night. If you are organising a camp for any other youth organisation or school, our rate has stayed the same at £5.00 per person per night.

We look forward to receiving your booking.

Emails Spoofed & Fake Bills Sent Out

On Tuesday, I thought I’d set up email addresses under the danemeadcampsite.org.uk domain for all the various people involved with Danemead.

Unfortunately, yesterday I received loads of bouncebacks that made me realise that an email address on our domain had been spoofed and bills were being sent out allegedly from someone called Katharina Wellbrock from a company called Schleifring Systems Limited but from the Danemead domain.

Needless to say, I have contacted the company who hosts our website, Webhosting UK, and they have sorted it out and stopped it happening again.

However, if you have received an email allegedly from proposition@ followed by the Danemead domain ie danemeadcampsite.org.ukplease ignore them and delete them. Do NOT open any attachment they might have.

Thank you.

Danemead AGM 27th July 2014

Although the invitation to the Danemead AGM was sent out to the four owning Districts back in June, the new website gives me the opportunity to put all the documents associated with it here for the first time.

The AGM will be held up at Danemead this coming Sunday 27th July at 2pm and a warm welcome is extended to anyone with an interest in Danemead.

Feel free to look at and print any of the documents associated with the meeting as follows:

Invitation Letter for the AGM.
AGM Agenda.
Minutes of the AGM held on 1st October 2013.
Annual Report for 2013 -2014.
Annual Accounts for the year ending 31st March 2014.

The AGM is usually quite brief and I’m sure there will be a cup of tea or coffee and some biscuits …… who wants a meeting without biscuits :) It gives you the chance to find out what has been going on at Danemead and what is planned for the future. Hopefully, if the weather is nice, you can have a wander round and enjoy the site (and we won’t charge you a day visitor fee, I promise!!) :)
